UPCOMING VITALITY ASSESSMENT?
Pre-Assessment Instructions
Better Prep = Better Results 👌 The standardized conditions recommended in our Pre-Assessment Instructions have been developed over more than 3 decades of assessing these biomarkers. Following them to the best of your ability is important to the accuracy and interpretation of your results.
Note: The standards with "BIA-Specific" beside them are unique to assessing bioimpedance analysis (BIA), which is used at our Certified V-Metrics Centers. Please disregard if you are not using BIA to assess your body composition.
-
Alcohol : Avoid alcohol consumption 24 hours prior to assessment. -
Caffeine & Other Stimulants : Avoid caffeine, nicotine or other stimulants 4 hours prior. -
Food : Avoid food 8–12 hours prior. -
Salt-Intake : Avoid atypically salty foods for 24 hours prior to assessment. Note: Most fast food and restaurant meals have higher salt content. -
Exercise : Avoid strenuous exercise 8 hours prior. -
Hydration : Focus on adequate hydration in the 24 hours prior. -
Perspiration : Avoid activities where you sweat heavily 12 hours prior. -
Sleep & Recovery : Do the best you can to ensure a normal night’s sleep prior. -
Skin Products (BIA-Specific) : Avoid using any skin products, such as moisturizers and lotions, on the hands, wrists, feet, and ankles 24 hours prior. -
Accessories (BIA-Specific) : Remove any jewelry, wearable devices, or other electronics on hands, wrists, feet, and ankles. -
Menstrual Cycle (BIA-Specific) : Due to hormonal and related fluid shifts which influence body composition assessments, results are most likely to vary significantly during the premenstrual phase (1–3 days before period), especially if you tend to retain fluid at this time. They may also vary during your menstrual phase (during period) if you experience heavy bleeding. Testing during the same cycle phase each assessment will allow for more relevant results and trend insights. Do your best to conduct the body composition portion of your Vitality Assessment outside of your premenstrual phase (1–3 days before period) and during days of heavy bleeding (light bleeding or spotting is fine). -
If you have a history of
asthma, lung, or heart disease, or you are on heart or blood pressure medication, please check with your doctor to see if Heart Rate Recovery assessment is safe for you to engage. -
Body Composition analysis with BIA technology is generally not recommended for
pregnant women. This is not necessarily because the technology poses a direct risk to the mother or fetus, but rather due to the physiological changes during pregnancy that can significantly alter the accuracy of results. The safety profile of BIA during pregnancy hasn't been extensively studied. Out of caution, we recommend avoiding BIA during pregnancy. -
Individuals with
implanted electronic medical devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, or medication pumps should avoid testing body composition with BIA devices, as the electrical signal used in the analysis could potentially interfere with the function of these devices.
